Found your website very informative. I am an Australian citizen currently living and working in the US. My employer though is thinking about shifting me to JB in the coming years. My question is, where do most of the expats live? From my limited internet searches, Horizon Hills seems like a likely place for Aussies….. Thanks

    • Hi RJ,

Johor Bahru is spread out over a great distance and so Expats are also spread out, in 2006 when I came to JB to live the main area was Permas Jaya at the Straits View Condominium it overlooks the golf course and has nice sea views, then just up the road is Taman Molek which has another condominium that has lots of expats, Then Bukit Indah area took off and has lots of expats, as you say Horizon Hills and ledang heights, also leisure Farms resort is mostly expats. But I find that its a matter of taste so find a condominium or gated and guarded housing of which their are lots in johor bahru and many more popping up already their is about 30 condos being built in JB of which about 5 are over 30 floors high, it’s a boom place right now and will be the place to live in about ten years. but I love it here now.

Hope it goes well for you RJ

  3. Hi John,

I have recently moved to JB from the UK and will be staying here for the next 11 months as part of an Engineering Internship. I work in Pasir Gudang and I am currently looking for an apartment. I just wanted to ask, do you have any areas that you recommend living? Preferably close to my work, with good security etc. My budget currently is < RM 3000 per month.

Thank you and i've enjoyed reading your blog.
