JOHOR BARU: In efforts to clear Aedes mosquitoes breeding grounds and curb the spread of dengue in the state, SWM Environment Sdn Bhd conducted a cleaning operation at an illegal dumpsite in Taman Desa Skudai here.

SWM Environment Sdn Bhd Southern Region manager Mohd Zan Arris said the move was to support the efforts carried out by the National Solid Waste Management Department (JPSPN) and government to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes breeding grounds in Johor.

“The illegal dumpsite at Jalan Sejahtera 7 was identified as one of the potential breeding sites for Aedes mosquitoes and each time we clean up the area, some irresponsible people will dump their waste there again.

“We have been monitoring such areas and also stationed our men here to prevent such illegal dumpsites from taking shape,” he said in a press conference held in Taman Desa Skudai here.

He added that the cleaning operation involved three roll on, roll off (Roro) lorries and two excavators with about 10 SWM Environment Sdn Bhd workers.

Mohd Zan added that the initiative was the company’s corporate social responsibility to curb dengue cases,

He said that they were committed to monitor other areas which needed to be cleaned up in order to check dengue fever risk.

“We urge the public to stop illegal dumping activities and to start practicing the waste segregation programme.
