Hi, I’m new to Johor and was wondering if you know of any yoga / pilates studio in Bukit Indah / East Ledang area? Thanks.

  2. Sue says:

I would like to know if anyone know any gym that separates the men and women sections for exercising. This bit of info will really help me in my decision making. Thanks in advanced peeps!

    • Hi,
Not heard of this before. I use the 7dayfitness at country gardens and when i go around 8am the most i see is about 5-6 people, so you should be able to go yoga room for private exercise, but to separate the service not sure this would be practical. Anyone else out their heard of this in johor bahru if so please help Sue in her search. regards John and good luck Sue.

I hope this is the right place to post this but I am wondering what JB has to offer in terms of therapy for the residents? Are there any qualified physiotherapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists educated from Canada, USA, AUS living and working in the area and who may have clinics for expats and/or locals?

I am a Registered Massage Therapist from Canada and have been longing to return to SE Asia as my wife and I spent 2007-2012 living in Jakarta and Singapore working. After that, we moved back to Canada to start our family and also for me to go back to school to get my licence to work. I have successfully done that and am now working in a physio clinic in Canada. However, my heart is still in SE Asia and there almost seems to be a reverse culture shock for me being back “Home”. I miss all my friends I made overseas and miss the culture I came to love. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Canadian but I also love SE Asia too (if that makes sense)

I have thought of one day opening up a clinic to treat musculoskeletal disorders in SE Asia but I have no idea if the expat and local community would be ready for it, never mind want to pay for therapy like they do here in Canada. To make things clearer, massage therapy is NOT the same as it is mentioned in SE Asia. I spent over 2500 hours in school and had to undertake the rigorous board examinations to receive my license just to work as a Massage Therapist. It is regulated in most places in Canada along with Chiropractic care and physiotherapy and I use many modalities to treat disorders and injuries from sprains, strains, dislocations, contusions, frozen shoulder, arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. I need to stress that massage therapy I perform is not like a spa treatment you would receive in SE Asia (although I’ve had many of those! and there is therapeutic properties to those treatments).

This isn’t meant to be a gloating session about all that I know but I have had many people become confused about my profession and I want to make it very clear. I treat injuries and disorders and am QUALIFIED to do so. Relaxation is done at a spa and they are probably better at it than I am anyways 🙂

I would love to hear comments from locals and expats on this issue. Are they looking for qualified therapy? Is there a need for therapy in JB that I could fill?

    Would love some feedback,

    • Hi Dylan, I have approved you message and hopefully expats that read my blog can respond, Maybe it would serve you better to contribute to a forum for expats, lots on facebook now for johor bahru, see the groups section.

Also maybe the expat blog forums for Malaysia,

Other than that I wish you luck with your return to Asia…

      regards John

very bad service , call to ask for detail , response very fierce & hang up my call

    • HI LC – you do not say which Gym U called and I agree i someone did that to me I’d also think how rude. However until you advise which gym you are referring to I can not pass on your feed back.Or better still tell me what you want to know and I will get the info for you.

      Regards John..

      • LC says:

I received Excel Gym quote via service hero. Hence , I called 0127189007 as per provided . I requested the personal trainer service , he only said “same price” & hang up my call, very rude tone. I don’t even ask the price in my call .

        • Ok well thanks for the update,he could have had probs with his mobile signal so maybe give another try. if no joy look else where their are many gyms in Johor Bahru now offering great deals, and most have personal trainers.I myself have joined new gym this week and love it. but it depends where you live. just do search on google for gym or fitness centres and you will find something near to you.

Good luck and thanks for your feedback I will review all the gyms on my site and remove some thanks again John..
